Baryancistrus xanthellus (L018, L081, L085, L177, LDA060) is a species of Loricaria in the Ancistrini tribus. It is a benthic fresh water fish that lives i Rio Xingu in the Amazon system. It reaches a length of 22 cm SL.
Baryancistrus xanthellus is a popular aquarium fish, and has been described with various L-numbers and the common names of "gold nugget" and "golden nugget pleco" until the species was scientifically described in 2011.
The various L-numbers describe different populations of the species, although L018 and L085 has been used for the same population, where L018 has been used for juveniles while L085 has been used for adult individuals.
Before the species was described, it was uncertain whether these were different species or different populations of the same species.
